Salty Sea Pig are once again searching for 'volunteers' to take part in the Isle

major attraction as a motley collection of 'plankers' (contestants) take turns to be pushed

[from the 2007 listing] Paynetown State Recreation Area at Monroe Lake, Bloomington,
INDIANA.
Featuring: Replica Ships, Dueling, Swordsmen, Pirate ship battles over the
water, Pirate encampment, Treasure hunts, Sea shanties
And more await all who dare…
"Greetings to Sailors, Gentlemen of Fortune, Pirates, Privateers and other "businessmen":
Picture camping on a peninsula with an overlooking
bluff to the beautiful Monroe Lake in August. (Free camping to Period Correct
Pirates!) To your right, a sandy swimming beach and a perfect place to anchor
your PC sailing ship if you so desire ($5 DNR tag for non-motorized, $20 for
motorized - tag is good for all DNR properties with water!). To the left you
ask? 11,000 + acres of water to sail on, shoot cannons and walk the plank! Arrr!
Saturday afternoon the pirates will become
restless and will have a skirmish over the water, by land and sea! In the
evening, for all you black powder enthusiasts, there will be a night firing
demonstration and a pot-luck supper (that was just so tasty this year!) Not to
mention kids activities and a very supportive public attendance (we had way over
800 visitors this year and it was a first year event!) This event is essentially
free to period correct re-enactors (aside from the required boat and vendors
permit if need be!) and we try to be as hospitable as possible- (hot showers and
flush facilities within walking distance, water and free Ice available, a
general store and a beautiful park and lake to boot!)
Now we know pirates did not really exist in Southern Indiana, so "Period
correct" for this event is a little more flexible. We can have everything
from Indians to British soldiers to sailors to fur traders etc as long as
everything is accurate.
If you have period correct wares to peddle or a special talent you would like
featured, please e-mail me so that we can best fit you! There is a DNR Vendors
permit that is required if you would like to sell anything, but it is not
expensive. So please contact me before hand. We are also looking for: musicians,
sword fighters, artisans, and anything else you can think of that would fit in
to our PC Pirate theme! (No polyester pirates please!).
Also, there was a talk of a trek leading up to this event- hiking and sailing in
from across the lake the few days before-, let me know if you are interested and
I'll put you in contact with the right people.
If this sounds like a weekend that's worthwhile, please contact me so I can add
you to our ships log. Bring your friends and family for an unforgettable time!"

8th & 9th, 2008: Pyrate Invasion
Beaufort, NORTH CAROLINA. - North Carolina Colonial history records that,
during the summer of 1747, the town of Beaufort was attacked and pillaged twice
by Spanish pirates. On both occasions, local farmers and militia defended the
town, and the invading pyrates were driven off - presumably into the waters of
Taylor's Creek. One pyrate was killed in the attic of the Hammock House,
Beaufort's oldest structure. Names of those who served the local militia at that
time are displayed at Fort Macon historic site, Atlantic Beach.
It is rumored
that Captain Horatio Sinbad, Beaufort's own pyrate is behind this invasion and
has invited pyrates from all over the East Coast to join him.
There will be a pyrate encampment on the Beaufort
Historical Site grounds. The pyrates will begin to arrive on Friday, August 8th
There will be a fish fry/chicken fry on the historic site. Grog begins at 6:00.
Food will be served at 7:00. Tickets are $15 for the food.
On Saturday, August 9th, pyrates will leave the Historic site
around 1:00 to move down to the Beaufort Waterfront and the pyrate invasion will
begin around 2:00. After the invasion, the captured pyrates will be marched back
to the Beaufort Historic site and there will be a mock trial. . On Saturday
night, August 9th at 7:30 there will be a Pyrate Ball held at the Maritime
Museum on Front Street. Those coming in pyrate garb will pay $25 to attend;
those not in costume will pay $30 to attend.
For more information regarding the pyrate invasion, you may contact Martha
Barnes, Coordinator at 252-728-3917

2008: Bill
Johnston’s Pirates Days
Alexandria Bay, NEW YORK. Welcome to Alexandria Bay, in the beautiful Thousand
Islands, New York. Alexandria Bay is home of Boldt Castle, situated on Heart
Island, and the proud home of the Famous “Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days.”
The following is a list of our 10 days filled with family fun and special
events. The sword-fighting group, known as the “Tales from Remikreh,” will
be performing throughout the Village streets and at various Route 12 locations.
Life size chessboard.
Bill Johnston was a renegade
after the patriots war, who blew up the British steamer, Sir Robert Peel, hid
among the 1000 Islands, and was hunted by both U.S. and Canadian authorities.
The annual Bill Johnston's Pirates Days celebration commemorates some of his
exploits. Fill your senses with the sound and spectacle when pirate ships attack
the village from the St. Lawrence River, as the brave villagers try to stave
them off. The air is filled with smoke and the sound of musket fire and cannon,
and eventually the villagers succumb as the pirates invade the town. After the
mayor turns over the key to the village to the invading marauders, everyone
becomes a pirate.
You are invited to join in the spirit of Pirate Days and
dress as a Pirate, Patriot, or Indian when attending any or all of these events.
All times are subject to change. Please check the Event Board at the
Entertainment Tent or at the Chamber Office at (315) 482-9531. A band of Sword
Fighting Pirates will be available during all 10 days at most events listed for
photo opportunities. The Tales from Remikreh group will be throughout the
Village so BEWARE! Most events are free and for the enjoyment of the public.
Call the Chamber office for details at 800-541-2110.

calling all Pirates, Privateers, Buccaneers, Freebooter and general scurvy dogs

Golden Age of Piracy in the nation's oldest city. All pirates are welcomed

along scenic Matanzas Bay in Historic Saint Augustine. Come ashore and see the
pirate mutiny, weapons demonstrations, the sailor's encampment, Thieves Market,
Shipwreck Museum and so much more! General
Info: xo@maidenspub.com
Re-inactors: Join the Crew of the
Black Heart as we will fight with swords, shoot guns, recreate battles and are
immersed in pirate history. But, as with all good things there is a
catch...authentic pirates have to dress completely authentically, from the
buckles on your shoes to your hat. Contact the press gang through: philthy@maidenspub.com
Polyester Pirates: If you want to be a
pirate just to have some fun, this would be choice number two. The other larger
group of pirates we have at the Pirate gathering are the "polyester
pirates". These pirates address the legends more than the historical
accuracy of pirates in Hampton Roads. And man can you have fun with this.
Polyester pirates can take many more liberties and be much more comfortable with
their dress and actions. They can work and play in any area of the festival
outside the living history exhibits.

Scurvy. They hope to achieve this by bringing awareness to the fact that Scurvy
still exists in the modern world, even though we have had a documented and cost
effective cure for almost 400 years. Plus, it’s a great excuse to have
some grog (rum punch with lime juice), or margaritas, with yer shipmates in the
name of a good cause. Visit the website for some great ideas to promote
the awareness of this day and the problem of scurvy. And EAT A LIME!
